Jazz Honor Dantley

Well, at least the Utah Jazz got it right. Ten days after the 24-member selection committee of the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame shot an air ball in not including Adrian Dantley (or any NBA player for the matter) among the class of 2007, at least the NBA’s 18th leading scorer received the ultimate team honor when the Jazz retired No. 4 to the rafters.

Yet the Hall of Fame snub still stings. How can a player who won two NBA scoring titles, amassed 23,177 points and earned six All-Star appearances get passed over for basketball’s ultimate enshrinement a sixth time? A finalist since 2001, Dantley has yet to break through and will he ever? It’s simply unconsciousable to think that he won’t.

How good was Dantley? Check out his year-by-year scoring averages in Salt Lake City alone.

1979-80 28 PPG
1980-81 30.7 PPG
1981-82 30.3 PPG
1982-83 30.7 PPG
1983-84 30.6 PPG
1984-85 26.6 PPG
1985-86 29.8 PPG

Dantley averaged 29.6 points per game as a member of the Jazz and at 6-4, dominated small forwards three and four inches taller than him.

“From 15 feet on in, he was the best basketball player I’ve ever seen,” said Kiki Vandeweghe who often guarded Dantley. “You just couldn’t stop him. There was nothing you could do. One-on-one, absolutely not. He just got in, somehow close to the basket, threw up some garbage shot, you thought was garbage but that was his normal shot and he just found a way to score.”

In measuring Dantley’s impact, you merely can’t look at his numbers without factoring in the era in which he played. The small forward position ruled the ’80s. It was the golden era for the 3 spot: Larry Bird, Julius Erving, Alex English, Bernard King, James Worthy, Vandeweghe, Mark Aguirre, Marques Johnson and let’s not forget Jamaal Wilkes.

“It seemed like everyone who was great was at that position,” said Vandeweghe. “Every night, you played against a guy who could drop 30 on you, easily. It was just an amazing time to play basketball and to be a small forward.”

Hours prior to his jersey retirement, Dantley expressed relief that the team finally honored his contributions. Imagine what he'll feel like when the moratorium is lifted in Springfield in honoring all-time great NBA players.

NBA: Arenas out of starting lineup!

Gilbert Arenas injured his left knee in a collision with Gerald Wallace in the first quarter of Wednesday night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats.

Wallace fell into Arenas as the Bobcats forward completed an acrobatic reverse layup along the baseline late in the first quarter. The contact bent Arenas' knee awkwardly as he fell to the court.

Arenas had been in the game less than two minutes. He did not start for the first time this season because he was late for the team's shootaround.

Arenas, the Wizards' leading scorer and three-time All-Star, was averaging 28.8 points entering Wednesday's game.

The Wizards were already playing without All-Star forward Caron Butler, who broke a bone in his hand during Sunday's loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Antonio Daniels made his first start of the season against the Bobcats. Arenas was not on the court with his teammates for the national anthem but arrived at the bench before tipoff.

It was the third starting lineup change in three games for the Wizards. Center Brendan Haywood was benched in favor of Etan Thomas on Sunday, and Jarvis Hayes has started at small forward since Butler's injury.

Florida Wins!

The Florida Gators took a chomp out of NCAA history with the repeat they simply had to have.

Now they want more. They want to be called one of the best teams of all time. The Gators made their case Monday night with an 84-75 victory over Ohio State to capture the second straight NCAA championship that was their only reasonable goal this season. They became the first team to go back-to-back since Duke in 1992 and the first ever to repeat with the same starting five.

"I think this team should go down as one of the best teams in college basketball history," coach Billy Donovan said. "Not as the most talented, and not on style points - but because they encompassed what the word 'team' means."

Which Team to Shine?

The NCAA Tournament is now down to only 2 teams. It was Florida vs Ohio St. for the BCS National Championship in College Football and now for College Basketball's National Title Game it's who? That is, Florida vs Ohio St.... again.

Four months ago who would have thought of this scenario? Nobody expected the Gators to make the BCS Championship, let alone chomp the Buckeyes into pieces. And now here we are, OSU vs Florida all over again.

Well now the Buckeyes get their chance for revenge. To redeem the psyche of the whole Buckeye Nation after that horrific dismantling the Gators gave them last January 8. Watch out Tedd Ginn's ankle!

Are the Sacramento Kings Going To Make The Playoffs?

The Sacramento Kings believe to be far away from the playoffs. With only 11 games left do yu believe their going to make the playoffs. Post your comments.

NBA

Its all going to come down to the Mavericks and the Suns for the NBA Championship. I would have to say that the Suns are going to win with all of that offensive power and a 2 time MVP in Steve Nash. The Mavericks can play some defense though. The first time these two teams met up it was the Suns taking a double overtime win over the Mavericks. The Next game is going to be just as exciting.

Final Four

No! My UCLA Bruins lost to Florida. I don't like Florida. Their style of playing and that Noha guy I don't like
